SwissCanSat
What's SwissCanSat competition ?
SwissCanSat is a
competition organized by
HES-SO and
ESA that challenges
teams of secondary school students. Teams must design, build and launch their own miniature satellite of the
size of a soda can. On the official launch day, the can will be attached to an aerostatic balloon and released
from a height of less than one kilometer. The can will have to land safely on the ground and perform the
following missions:
Measure the air temperature
Measurement of air pressure

Our project
Here is a small introduction to our design
Our mechanical design is based on five springs loaded legs released in the
beginning of the flight by the parachute upward traction. Their purpose is to increase the ground contact area
and absorb the remaining inertia with their springiness. They are also going to be used to expose some sensors
and solar panels to the outside environment.
The EMFSat is divided in multiple pieces to be easily 3D printed. It is reinforced with threaded rods running
all the way through it which are also used to assemble the different 3D printed pieces together.
